A Statement to Fit Every Need: I’ve found that I really like collages and smaller formats, like 4x6s, even though they’re no longer part of a “project.” I also enjoy “Art Card Editions Originals” cards, which are typically 3.5 by 2.5 inches. I guess my first ACEO card was a collage over inkjet—as you can see here—and that’s what I named it: ‘A Statement to Fit Every Need.’
I don’t know exactly what I was thinking, but I came across this guy in an old Australian women’s magazine who was standing around a bunch of luggage at an airport, protecting it with an umbrella. I made a silhouette out of him and printed it a few times on a card with a ‘pastel green’ backgrounds. I started thinking, ‘Okay, what is this guy protecting himself from…other than rain?’ I went down a political road: it’s all that shredded stuff you don’t want anybody to know about. The reason you have a shredder—this guy is protecting himself from information that hasn’t been completely destroyed yet. It seemed kind of cool. I tried making it with newspaper clippings first, but I hated them and tossed them. For my first little’collage, I think this turned out pretty well. I might make prints available on Ebay or this site; I haven’t decided yet. I’m still trying to find my balance.
On a personal note, I began cardiac rehab this past week. I’m also going to physical therapy, and I’m not in the same pain I was in before. I’m grateful to technology for that. You’d be surprised at the different things you can make when you don’t have chronic pain hanging over you all the time.
Anyway, I think I’m going to move forward with the collage work and maybe try some gel prints—just interesting, wonderful, weird stuff. Not quite Salvador Dalí, but not quite Matisse either.
It’s a rainy day here, early in the morning. I’ve got no complaints about life right now, so I’m just going to ride that wave. Hope you all have a good one. Thank you, and take care! Feel free to comment on my Facebook if you want; I prefer not to have comments here—it’s just too much. Bye, love you guys!
